Tongue Tied

You would think that Roy has been through enough in his first few weeks of life, but not my tough guy. He's conquered one feat after another. Since he wasn't back up to birth weight at his two week appointment, Scott and I had to bring him back in a few days later for a weight check. Well what was supposed to be a quick little task turned into an afternoon excursion. First Roy wasn't even close to being back at birth weight, he had actually lost an ounce weighing in at an even 7 lbs. So the advicd nurse had us stay for an appointment with our pediatrician who would be available all afternoon once she was back from lunch. So we went and had his blood drawn for his second PKU test while we waited, then we checked back in for our appointment. Dr. Mehta and the advice nurse decided that we should see the lactation consultant in the mean time. When we finally got in to her she weighed Roy again and then gave him a once over. The once over was when she informed us that our little man was tongue tied and that's probably why he wasn't back up to birth weight, his tongue was keeping him from being able to really suck when he was nursing. So I fed him and she gave us 2 oz. of formula to also supplement him. Then we met another pediatrician who was able to take of his tongue by snipping his frenulum (the piece of tongue underneath that holds it in your mouth). So after facing down a circumcision, a case of thrush, Roy had his tongue clipped. He handled it like a champ, hardly crying. And now he is eating great, he nurses and then has a small bottle of formula, and he's up to an amazing 7 lbs. 11 oz. Our little buddy is getting big!!!!
